Caring for Your New Arrival: Cord Care Tips
The umbilical cord is connected to the placenta and is responsible for delivering food and oxygen to your baby while he is still developing inside you. It also takes waste out from your baby so you can flush it out. Once your baby is out, he will not need it anymore, so it is cut and disposed together with the placenta. Where it was cut, it will leave a stump, which will heal within two weeks after the delivery. Healing process is usually straightforward, but 70% of women surveyed feel anxious about touching this sensitive area.
