Bellator highlights: Watch the best of Michael Chandler and Pat Curran?s win

Bellator debuted on Spike on Thursday night. Champions Pat Curran and Michael Chandler held onto their championship belts. For Curran, his title defense came in a boxing-filled, tight match with Patricio "Pitbull" Freire. Chandler's came thanks to dominating wrestling against judo Olympian Rick Hawn. Chandler finished with a perfect rear-naked choke.

For the other televised bouts, Mihail Zayats, Emanuel Newton and Jacob Noe picked up wins. Did you tune in to the fights? Will Bellator become a regular part of your Thursday nights? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

How New Drivers Can Bring Down The Cost Of Auto Insurance

The price of auto insurance continues to grow, but there is one group that are most affected by these increases, namely, new drivers, particularly those between 17 to 22 years old. Due to their lack of experience and propensity for foolhardy driving behaviors, they are regarded as high risk drivers. As a result, fewer insurance companies wish to cover them, and policies offered to this group are often exorbitant.

Why Silver Coins Worth The Money Have Additional Value

There was a time in this country's history when most currency coins were indeed made of actual silver. Today, however, most coins are made of inexpensive and readily available metals such as copper and other alloys. In the days when coins were made of precious metals such as silver, the cost of the precious metal was closely related to the denomination value of the coin.

Tech 3 Press Release: MMCG To Back Moto2 Team As Title Sponsor

While the Tech 3 MotoGP effort has been well-funded due to the team's association with energy drink brand Monster Energy, the team's Moto2 bikes have been relatively unadorned. With the departure of Belgian rider Xavier Simeon, and the loss of backing from Belgian TV station RTL, Tech 3's Moto2 effort looked to go with little backing for 2013.

Fortunately for Tech 3, care home group MMCG has stepped up to the plate, and will support the Tech 3 Moto2 effort as title sponsor for 2013. The MMCG group is based in Britain, and with a strong British contingent in Tech 3, a tie up was a logical step for MMCG. MMCG already had previously backed James Toseland when the British rider was with Tech 3, and as Toseland's former manager Roger Burnett is also the manager of Danny Kent, Tech 3's British Moto2 rider, the move to sponsoring the team was small.

Below is the press release issued by Tech 3 on the deal:

Tech 3 Racing confirms MMCG as title sponsor for Moto2 challenge

The Tech 3 Racing Team is delighted to confirm it has reached an agreement with leading UK care home group MMCG to be its title sponsor for the 2013 Moto2 World Championship campaign.

10 best fighters for UFC to take after Strikeforce?s end

This Saturday, Strikeforce will host its final show. The promotion, owned by the UFC's parent company, will cease to exist, leaving many of their fighters to the UFC. No assumptions are being made on any fighters joining the UFC, but here are the 10 best from the Strikeforce roster* who are now available to the UFC.

10. Miesha Tate -- The woman who lasted the longest against Ronda Rousey can also be one of the bricks that help build the UFC women's bantamweight division. A rematch with Sarah Kaufman would be a great bout to show that women not named Rousey can be draws.

9. Josh Barnett -- Though he hasn't been in the UFC since 2002, Barnett is still an exciting heavyweight to add to one of the UFC's best divisions. Before his loss to Daniel Cormier, Barnett was on an eight-fight win streak, with seven of those fights ending with a submission or knockout.

8. Tim Kennedy -- The longtime Strikeforce standout should get a chance with the UFC after Saturday's bout with Trevor Smith. He was a part of some of Strikeforce's most exciting bouts, and will get to show just how good he is in the UFC's middleweight division.

7. Gegard Mousasi -- The one-time light heavyweight champion can be a thrilling fighter to watch. He will get to show where he belongs with Saturday's bout against Mike Kyle.

6. Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza -- He has great submission skills, and showed in his last bout that he has knockout power, too. Souza will get his first chance against a UFC fighter on Saturday against Ed Herman.

5. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos -- She is coming off of a suspension because of a banned substance, but before that suspension, she was the most dominant female fighter in the world. If she wants to come to the UFC, she'll have to cut down to 135, but if she did, the bout against Rousey would be insane.

4. Nate Marquardt -- The welterweight champ will get a chance to defend his belt on Saturday against Tarec Saffiedine. He has plenty of UFC experience and a record of 32-10. He also said he would be up for fighting teammate, friend and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

3. Luke Rockhold -- The middleweight champ is excited to get more difficult competition, and he will finally get a bigger stage to show off his well-rounded style.

2. Gilbert Melendez -- In many ways, Melendez needs the UFC's lightweight division more than it needs him. He cleaned out Strikeforce's lightweights some time ago, and it will be exciting to see such a high-level lightweight take on one of the UFC's toughest divisions.

1. Daniel Cormier -- Despite being a huge underdog, Cormier walked through Strikeforce's heavyweight grand prix. His wrestling is unparalleled in the UFC, and he showed against Antonio Silva that his striking game isn't to be looked past as well. The biggest question is what division he'll join. His teammate Cain Velasquez is the heavyweight champion, and Cormier has said he wants to fight UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones.

*Some Strikeforce fighters, like Derek Brunson and Tyron Woodley, have already crossed over to the UFC. The fighters chosen for this list are ones who are currently listed on Strikeforce's website.

Do you think the list should be different? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Benson Henderson set for April Fox card

UPDATE: Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole has confirmed that Melendez vs. Henderson and Mir vs. Cormier will happen on April 20 at HP Pavilion in San Jose for UFC on Fox 7. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Feb. 15.

Though other Strikeforce fighters have been matched up for bouts within the UFC, the first of the current champions has a bout. Gilbert Melendez, the longtime Strikeforce lightweight champion, will reportedly take on Benson Henderson at the UFC on Fox's show in April.

It will be Melendez's first fight since May, when he beat Josh Thomson in a split decision. Melendez was supposed to fight in September, but an injury kept him from the card. Again, he was scheduled to fight on Strikeforce's final card in January, but shoulder problems kept him off the card.

By contrast, Henderson was incredibly active in 2012. He fought three championship bouts: two against Edgar, and one against Melendez's teammate Nate Diaz. All three were won by decision.

No matter who wins this bout, it's interesting that the UFC will have a champion who was crowned first in another promotion that was owned by the same company as the UFC. Henderson was the WEC lightweight champion, but lost the belt to Anthony Pettis in the show's final fight. He won the UFC belt with a win over Edgar.

Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champion Daniel Cormier also asked to be on the Fox card. After his win on Saturday night, Cormier said he wanted to fight Frank Mir on Fox's April event. Cormier was originally slated to fight Mir in November, but Mir had to withdraw because of an injury. Henderson-Melendez and Cormier-Mir is the start of a fun set of fights for Fox.

Judge Koh finds Samsung infringement of Apple patents was not willful, won't triple damages

Judge Lucy Koh has decided on several post-trial motions from Samsung and Apple in their long running patent case, overturning one key element of the jury's ruling while upholding several others. What was overturned was the jury's ruling that Samsung's acts of patent infringement were willful, which meant Judge Koh could have tripled some parts of the $1 billion+ in damages granted to Apple. On the other hand, she also rejected Samsung's request for a new trial, and invalidated two claims a wireless patent it holds. AppleInsider posted the decision to Scribd, which you can find embedded after the break, hit the source links for a few other looks at the ruling and what this means going forward. Naturally of course, it's not over yet (it's never over) as each company can still appeal elements of the ruling, and other appeals in the case are already ongoing.

Tesla Model S sets quarter-mile record for quickest production EV [w/video]

Tesla Model S

It looks as if the Tesla Model S has a new feather to stick in its cap. DragTimes.com took the five-door down to Palm Beach International Raceway for a few sprints down the quarter mile, and the EV managed to run a best time of 12.371 seconds at 110.84 miles per hour with a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. Those numbers were good enough for the Model S to take the crown as the world's quickest production EV according to the National Electric Drag Racing Association. NEDRA was on hand for the organization's Winter EV Nationals, and verified the new world record.

Near as we can tell, the previous record stood at 12.582 at 104.58 mph. That feat was accomplished with a Tesla Roadster owned by Zachary Vex and driven by Stella Kostolna at the Speedworld Dragstrip in Arizona. You can watch the Model S dust a Dodge Viper SRT10 in the video below. Who says you can't have any fun without internal combustion?

Facebook launches Ask Our Chief Privacy Officer, says knowing is half the battle

Facebook launches Ask Our Chief Privacy Officer, hopes to clear the air

There's no denying that Facebook's voting system for privacy policies is flawed -- when halting any measure requires enough votes to populate a large country, the attempt at democracy is more of a token gesture. As proposed, the company has launched an Ask Our Chief Privacy Officer page that's a tad more engaging. Fill out a short form and CPO Erin Egan just might offer a direct answer as to why Facebook chose a given privacy path, and possibly tackle any outstanding concerns head-on. Those curious users whose questions are picked will have to wait for a monthly public response to get their answers, so don't consider the page a personal hotline. It might, however, help make better sense of a company whose attitude towards our information is in constant flux.

Motorsports: Carlsson turns Mercedes-Benz SLK into 610-HP hill-climb clawer

Carlsson's race-tuned versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLK have been taking checkered flags for years, and we won't be surprised if its SLK 340 hill climber fares any different. Developed by multiple German and Swiss hill climb champion Reto Meisel, the carbon-bodied SLK 340 with lightweight brakes and a closed underbody weighs 1,716 pounds. Propelling that tiny bit of weight is a 3.4-liter V8 from Judd with 610 horsepower, and it rolls on 18-inch wheels shod in Avon tires.

It will debut at the Geneva Motor Show before beginning its racing campaigns in the summer. This one won't just tear up roads in Europe, though - Meisel says he plans on bringing it to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The press release below has more details.

Someone in New York City voted for Chael Sonnen for president

Chael Sonnen, the UFC fighter who is known as much for his trash talk as his fighting skills, has a passionate fanbase. They pay to watch him on pay-per-views, stand in line for hours for autographs and pictures, and hang on his every word. One fan even thought enough of Sonnen that he or she cast a ballot for him in the 2012 presidential election.

New York City's official election results were posted today. According to the New York Times, one vote was tallied for Sonnen. He received the same amount of votes as Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City.

Though the voter probably knew his or her vote wouldn't result in a Sonnen presidency, Sonnen has had political ambitions in the past. In 2010, he ran for a Senate seat in his home state of Oregon, but withdrew when a legal issue arose. The legal issue turned out to be money laundering in connection with his job as a realtor. Sonnen plead guilty in 2011.

Now, Sonnen's sights are on UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The two will coach against each other on the upcoming season of "The Ultimate Fighter," and face off in April.

Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson is so over the UFC

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will fight Glover Teixiera at UFC on Fox 6. If Jackson stays true to his word, it will be his last fight in the UFC. He has complained about being a part of the UFC time and time again. He reiterated on a pre-fight press call that he is done, done, done with the UFC. This is the last fight of his contract, and he has no plans to renegotiate with them.

"I think the UFC don't know how to treat the athletes, in my opinion," he said. "I feel like the fighters do a lot for the sport and I feel like we're not taken care of well enough. I feel like they're getting rich off all of us."

His cries are starting to sound like the lyrics to a Taylor Swift song. Jackson and the UFC are never ever ever getting back together. But if he doesn't fight for the UFC, his options for high-level MMA are limited. He said he could try other combat sports like kickboxing or boxing. Bellator could be an option, but one of Jackson's beefs with the UFC has been their matchmaking. The tournament set-up could be tough for him to deal with.

Either way, enjoy Jackson in the UFC while you can, because it's over for real this time.

Ask Engadget: best video baby camera?

Ask Engadget best video baby monitor

We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, then here's the outlet to do so. This week's Ask Engadget inquiry is from Berry2Droid, who wants to geek-up monitoring his first-born. If you're looking to ask one of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

"My wife and I are having a baby soon and need a video monitor. We'd like it to be compatible with our Android phones, rather than having a separate screen in the package. We'd also like some sort of visual aid as my wife is deaf so she would need some sort of other signal. If there was any ability to add additional cameras, that'd also be great. Thanks for your help!"

We could certainly point you in the direction of Samsung Techwin's Video Baby Monitor or Y-Cam's offering, both of which are infrared-and-internet capable cameras that pump the picture straight to your mobile device. We came a little unstuck on the visual warning element for your wife, however, but that's why we'll turn this question over to our faithful group of commenters to see if their knowledge stretches further than our own. Dear friends, help out a lovely couple as they embark upon the majestic (albeit fraught) journey of parenthood and provide some wisdom in the comments below.

After losing to Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos says his face hurts, but his hands don?t

Junior dos Santos lost the UFC heavyweight belt on Saturday night to Cain Velasquez. In the fight, Velasquez brutalized JDS with striking and wrestling for which dos Santos had no answer. Dos Santos recorded a video thank you to fans, and you have to give the guy credit. He does have a sense of humor about the loss.

"All the time, I got my hands hurt. All the time. But this time, I got my face hurt! My hands are feeling 100 percent. But my face got a little swollen," dos Santos said.

He also was sure to compliment Velasquez.

"I think Cain Velasquez did an excellent job, so congratulations to him. He followed a good strategy. I'm going to go home, and I'm going to fix everything, and put everything in the right place, and come back stronger than ever."

Before Saturday, dos Santos had lost just once in his career. He was submitted via armbar in 2007. It's pretty impressive that he's taking this loss so well, and adds some credibility behind his promise to come back stronger than ever.

How an Aquaculture System Works With Hydroponics To Create An Aquaponics Garden

Aquaponics combines hydroponics and aquaculture to grow healthy organic vegetables and fish. The hydroponics componment is where the plants and vegetables are grown and the aquaculture component is where the fish are reared. Both of these systems provide a major benefit for the other as they work simbiotically with each other creating a closed system to grow food. Because of this once an aquaponics system is fully functional, very little maintenance is required to grow food and rear the fish.

How A Microsoft / Dell Partnership Would Change The World

With an eroding PC market causing mayhem among its allies, Microsoft is reportedly talking about investing big in Dell to help take the troubled company private.

(See Why Would Microsoft Invest $3 Billion Into Dell?)

Such a dramatic move would inject Microsoft much deeper into the hardware business, giving it the chance to help drive the kind of innovation that has recently eluded the PC industry. But it would also blow up its longstanding partnerships with computer makers.

Shaking Up The Industry

Microsoft is only in discussions to join an investor group for a Dell buyout, and has made no commitment, according to The Wall Street Journal. If Microsoft were to follow through, than its investment would likely be around $2 billion. And Microsoft refuses to even discuss the report. "We do not comment on rumors or speculation," a company spokesperson said. Computer makers are also staying mum. Asus, Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard either declined comment or did not respond.

However, there's no reason why the rest of us cannot have a little fun exploring the implications of a deep Microsoft/Dell partnership.

First of all, this would simply be another step in Microsoft's push to shake up the moribund PC industry. Microsoft has good reason to take charge of its own destiny, rather than leave it to a bunch of partners that are more Keystone Cops than PC innovators. Since the release of the first iPad in 2010, tablets have joined smartphones in eating away at PC sales. During the last quarter of 2012, shipments fell more than 6%, marking the first time in over five years that the PC market has recorded a decline during the holiday season, according to International Data Corp.

So far, PC makers' most promising response has been the ultrabook, a thin and light laptop that is the Windows version of Apple's MacBook Air. Ultrabook specs, including size, weight and battery life, are dictated by Intel, which owns the name. So far, manufacturers have been unable to produce ultrabooks at a price low enough to attract consumers. As a result, PC makers are confusing customers with cheap alternatives with names like Sleekbook, which is made by HP.

That's clearly not good enough for Microsoft, which has made a radical overhaul of its operating system with Windows 8 and launched its own tablet after computer makers failed to slow sales of Apple's iPad, which dominates the tablet market today.

Microsoft + Dell

Microsoft has apparently grown tired of this bonehead behavior, and Dell offers a way out. For starters, the computer maker has deep expertise in PC manufacturing and support, neither of which Microsoft knows how to do well.

Besides the consumer market, Microsoft could steer Dell toward being more focused on the Windows platform for the data center, rather than "trying to do everything for everybody," said David Johnson, analyst for Forrester Research. In addition, Microsoft could get access to Dell's enterprise sales force.

Finally, a Dell/Microsoft partnership could lead to "converged infrastructure" that unifies the silicon, the hardware, the operating system platform and the management and operation tools. Such systems, which are a relatively new trend in the enterprise market, enable companies to use the same infrastructure for multiple purchases, such as running applications and storage. "It would be a potential game changer," Johnson said.

Of course, other computer makers would unlikely be happy with Microsoft working so closely with Dell - and perhaps giving it preferential treatment. However, Microsoft has already become a competitor with the Surface tablet, and largely gotten away with it.

(See Acer Begins Competing Against Microsoft's Surface Tablet - In The Press)

Microsoft's hardware partners would likely have even bigger issues with a Microsoft-Dell hookup, but there's not really much they can do about it. "Once you decide you're competing with the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), you're competing with the OEMs," said Michael Cherry at Directions on Microsoft. "You're already there. The investment just makes [Microsoft] a bigger OEM."

No one knows whether Microsoft will actually structure a deal to make Dell a premiere partner. But if it does, then Microsoft will effectively redefine its relationship with PC makers, creating a far different industry than exists now. And that could be a very good thing.

Best of all from Microsoft's perspective, investing in taking Dell private could give it most of these benefits for less than $3 billion, not the $24 billion and major complications a complete buyout might cost, if Dell were even for sale.

Sony grows E-mount lens collection with 20mm pancake, 18-200mm power zoom

Sony grows Emount lens collection to 13 with 20mm pancake, 18200mm power zoom

One of the most common criticisms circling Sony's NEX lineup and mirrorless cameras as a whole is limited lens selection, so we're always happy to see new high-end optics make their debut. Today, Sony's doing its part to make its products more appealing by adding two new lenses (for a total of 13): a 20mm f/2.8 pancake and a 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS powered-zoom optic, which first made its debut with the VG30 camcorder, but will now be available as a standalone purchase. That first model will ship in April for $350, while the zoom lens will be available in March for $1,200. Photography buffs can catch a few more details in the PR just past the break.

Sony Expands Lens Lineup for α E-Mount Camera System with New Wide-Angle and Telephoto Models

New 20mm f/2.8 "pancake" lens and Video-friendly 18-200mm f/3.5 - f/6.3 "Power Zoom" lens extend creative possibilities

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 22, 2013 - Sony is expanding its popular E-mount camera system with the addition of two new lenses compatible with all α E-Mount cameras and semi-professional camcorders.

New 20mm F2.8 'pancake' wide angle lens (model SEL20F28)

When mounted on any Sony α E-Mount camera, the sharp new SEL20F28 "pancake" lens creates an exceptionally versatile, portable package ideal for a broad range of everyday shooting opportunities ranging from interiors to landscapes, street photography, casual snapshots and more.

The new lens features an ultra-slim design approximately 20mm from lens front to back, and with its wide angle of view (30mm on 35mm equivalent) and bright F2.8 aperture, it produces excellent contrast, resolution and clarity across the frame for both still image and full HD video shooting.

New 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Powered Telephoto Zoom Lens (model SELP18200)

Originally offered only as a kit lens for the new NEX-VG30 camcorder introduced this past fall, the new SELP18200 powered telephoto zoom lens will now be available for purchase as a stand-alone lens.

Designed for serious videographers, the high-quality lens offers a generous 11x magnification range and whisper-quiet power zoom mechanics, focusing and aperture operation. This allows for smooth cinematic transitions when adjusting zoom level or manual settings during shooting. It features a comfortably positioned zoom lever that works with a switch on the lens barrel, allowing zoom speed to be selected in three different steps - from slow, beautiful shifts in perspective to dramatic crash-zoom effects. Zoom can also be controlled directly from compatible NEX-VG900, NEX-VG30 and NEX-FS700 (requires firmware update) video cameras.

The new lens also has built-in Optical SteadyShot[TM], which cuts the effects of camera shake and minimizes camera blur while shooting handheld at slower shutter speeds. Additionally, Active Mode further enhances stabilization at the wide end of the 11x zoom range ensuring smooth, stable footage even if the shooter is in motion. While the new SELP18200 lens is optimized for video, it's also a flexible choice for shooting still photography - from expansive landscapes to high impact close-ups of wildlife or athletes - with Sony's α E-Mount range of interchangeable lens still cameras.

Sony α E-mount lens family expansion

These new models expand the Sony E-mount family to 13 native E-mount lenses plus two converters, covering virtually any shooting situation for photographers and videographers alike. Spanning ultra-wide angle, powerful telezoom, macro and fast, bright primes, the range includes premium optics by Sony and Carl Zeiss, and offers refined performance and easy handling throughout the line.

Pricing and Availability

The new E 20mm F2.8 (SEL20F28) wide-angle prime lens will be available this April for about $350.

The new E PZ18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS (SELP18200) motorized telezoom lens will be available this March for about $1200.

The Sony α family of cameras, camcorders, lenses and accessories can be purchased at Sony retail stores, online at www.store.sony.com and at all other authorized retailers throughout the Sony dealer network.

How not to wash a windshield

We've heard of all manners of interesting ways to wash cars and car parts. Naturally, there's more store-bought specialized detergents than you can shake a rag at, but we've seen plenty of dish soap, vinegar, club soda and even Coke used to clean a stubborn part or two.

Sometimes, though, you've just got a little spot on your windshield that needs to be cleared off before you continue your commute. So, you pull into the gas station, grab the thoughtfully provided squeegee wand and go to town. Or, if you're the woman in the video down below, you take a somewhat different tactic.

Needless to say, we don't recommend following in her example. See why by watching the video below.

2013 Jerez WSBK Test Day 1: Giugliano Fastest In Wet, Lowes Quickest WSS Man

The weather has not improved at Jerez for the full World Superbike and World Supersport test. Aprilia, Honda, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki and Yamaha have met with much the same weather as Ducati, who have just departed the circuit after a three-day test of their own. It rained on and off for most of the day, leaving the track soaked despite the odd sunny spell. The tricky weather conditions rendered the times meaningless, though all of the teams got plenty of work done shaking down a host of new parts.

Althea Aprilia's Davide Giugliano ended the day on top, the young Italian making a good transition to the Aprilia, after having ridden the Ducati for the past two years. Marco Melandri was second, the only man to get within a second of Giugliano, and benefiting from an extra day of testing on Monday, riding his BMW in among the Ducatis. Sylvain Guintoli set the 3rd fastest time, but the Frenchman was nearly two-and-a-half seconds slower than Giugliano.
