The Evolution Of The Smartphone [Infographic]
This is an interesting walk through the history of the smartphone from HTC's perspective. It points out key products, moments and announcements from the companies that pioneered the mobile computer. As the timeline enters the age of ubiquitous mobility, it brings in key stats about mobile usage in terms of data, time, and people. There are also some kind-of-funny jokes.
Jaguar's Julian Thomson teaches us about design
For the design-minded among you, Julian Thompson, whose recent hits have included the Land Rover LRX concept and the Jaguar CX-75, gave a talk at the PSFK conference about design values. He begins with the question "How do you get a design story?" and then walks us through Jaguar's to address the issue of making the most of a brand's heritage while keeping things new and fresh.
It's a timely discussion because Thompson is also behind the new Jaguar F-Type which, according to his talk, is the latest in Jaguar's line of "beautiful fast luxury cars with glamour." Thompson doesn't shirk "the sad years of Jaguar," either, called out as being 1968 to 2004, when they "essentially made the same-looking car." Thompson's reasons for the malaise: "not only did we start doing market research, we started asking Americans what they wanted."
You'll find more insights in the video below.

Official: Toyota shows more SEMA stuff, including sportier Avalons that may preview production model
Filed under: Concept Cars, SEMA Show, Sedan, SUV, Truck, Toyota
While most of its competitors have already showed off scores of concept cars headed to the 2012 SEMA Show, all we've seen from Toyota so far is the Sequoia Family Dragster. With less than a week to go until the show, Toyota has let its floodgates open showing off three concepts using the redesigned Avalon, a TRD version of the FJ Cruiser and a mean-looking, off-road Tundra.
Showing off its much shapelier new design, the 2013 Avalon will have no fewer than three show cars on display including a sporty TRD model, a tricked-out DUB edition and even a flashy version of the Avalon Hybrid. The car should look right at home at the Vegas show - it has been stripped off all its chrome and given a sinister-looking black paint job including matte black 22-inch wheels. Between these wheels and the lowered suspension, the DUB Avalon has what appears to be mere millimeters of clearance for that perfect slammed show-car stance. The hybrid Avalon HV Edition (shown above) is meant to show that hybrid vehicles don't have to look boring, while the TRD Edition ups the Avalon's performance with a supercharger to go with upgraded brakes, suspension and styling.
As you may remember, back in late August, Autoblog broke the news that Toyota is seriously considering a sporty Avalon. At the time, our company sources told us that the SEMA showcars could serve as an indicator of where Toyota may be heading with a production performance Avalon, so be sure to take a closer look.
Speaking of TRD, Toyota has used the same recipe for its TRD TX Baja Series Limited Edition and applied it to the FJ Cruiser. The result is the FJ-S Cruiser which uses some of the same equipment as the Tacoma such as the Bilstein race shocks, cat-back exhaust and beadlock wheels. The FJ-S also drops a TRD supercharger onto the V6 engine, improving output to 345 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque.
On the opposite extreme as the Sequoia Family Dragster, the Ultimate Fishing Tundra is a jacked-up off-road behemoth designed by pro angler Britt Myers. Starting off with a 12-inch lift and 38-inch mud tires, the Tundra CrewMax should be quite imposing in person, and inside, the interior has been customized with a massive video monitor and even bucket seats for the rear passengers. This truck has been designed to be the ultimate tackle box, with a slide-out storage system for all the gear an angler needs... including a refrigerator for cold beverages.

We all say Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. But it's all still Denver, Denver, and the mystery that maybe isn't a mystery at all. If Cincinnati and Lake County go for Mitt Romney on Nov. 6 it will be because of what happened in Denver on Oct. 3. If Barack Obama barely scrapes through, if there's a bloody and prolonged recount, it too will be because of Denver.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 to see Jelly Bean from October 25?
Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 owners might want to take a look at this one. Android Central Forums member Skunkape60 shared this image with us all a little earlier today that, if genuine, indicates the Android 4.1 update to the Galaxy S3 will start pushing out from October 25. That's tomorrow then. We've got a build number, a reminder to the stores to update their own devices, pretty much everything.
It also looks like the Sprint update will bring some LTE related improvements too. It does say that it will be rolling out over the course of a few weeks, so be patient. But, from tomorrow, start checking for those updates.

Jelly Bean update hits unlocked UK Samsung Galaxy S3
After it began rolling out on certain British carriers last week, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 has this morning started to hit unlocked handsets. Those whose phones are parts of the "BTU" (British unlocked) region can now grab the 284MB update over-the-air or through Kies.
In addition to bumping Samsung's flagship smartphone up to the latest version of Android, this software update also adds a number of new features to TouchWiz. These include "blocking mode" for better control over notifications, alerts and callers, and an optional new "easy mode" for the home screen launcher, which automatically populates it with useful widgets. And, as it's Android 4.1, you get features like the new Google Search app with Google Now, and performance enhancements thanks to Google's "Project Butter."
If you've picked up your update, hit the comments and let us know how you're getting on. If you're still waiting, head to Settings > About device > Software update to see if your Jelly Bean upgrade is ready yet.
